Graduated in 1981 as organist, pianist, and choir conductor from the then Netherlands Institute for Church Music (NIK), now part of the Utrecht Conservatory of the University of the Arts Utrecht. Between 1981 and 1993, I gained experience as an organist at various churches and as a music teacher in education, including a music therapy program at the HAN University of Applied Sciences.
Singer
After completing my conservatory studies, I further developed my professional skills as a singer with various vocal coaches, including Marianne Blok, Nicolai Cok, and Michael Aspinal. I am currently being coached by Ronald Klekamp.
Choirs
Active as a singer for over 40 years. Worked as such with chamber choirs such as the Netherlands Bach Society, Cappella Amsterdam, Ribattuta Ensemble, Zurich Sing Academy, and Chorwerk Ruhr.
Still a member of Collegium Vocale Gent, conducted by Philippe Herreweghe.
Soloist
Performances as a soloist in opera, musical theater, oratorio, and as a Lied singer.
Pianist
Collaboration in the theater show "Deugzucht" with Marjolein de Graaff. Accompanist for various singers, including Åsa Olsson. Collaboration with theater maker and cellist Rata Kloppenburg, including in the production "God, Seks en Shostakovich." This last production has been performed several times throughout the Netherlands in recent years.
Composer/Arranger
Composer of theatre music, opera, and songs, and arranger commissioned by ensembles such as Theater ZEST, Theatergroep BOVEN WATER, The Gents, Frommermann, Singer Pur, Lieve Lust, Sixtonics, and Fuego Latino. Several compositions have been released on CD and published by Schott Publishers in Mainz. For an overview, see the page: list of compositions.
Teacher and Coach
Music education in my private teaching practice. Voice training and workshops with various chamber choirs. Was occasionally a rehearsal coach at Collegium Vocale Gent. Instructor of Advanced Ear Training and Solfège in the master's program at the HKU Conservatory (Utrecht). Coach at the Bel Canto Festival in Dordrecht (2000-2004).
Background in Music Therapy
During the Covid period, I worked with people with dementia at AMSTA in Amsterdam. From 1982 to 1993, he was a lecturer and internship supervisor at the Creative Therapy program, Music Department, at the Nijmegen University of Applied Sciences (now the HAN University of Applied Sciences). He was actively involved in the development and international research of music therapy. He worked for four years as a music therapist at the Willem Arntzt Hoeve in Den Dolder (now Altrecht).
